It’s coming up to that time of year again and I’m already excited! It’s no secret that I love bluebells, first of all they’re purple and second they make such a beautiful backdrop for any session. Until I moved to Lancashire I’d never experienced the magic of a bluebell wood in full bloom, but now that I have I’m making up for lost time.

This session was from May last year up in Roddlesworth Woods in Tockholes, Madia and her girls joined me in a particularly spectacular part of the woods to have their pictures amongst the carpet of flowers. The bluebell season is fleeting and unpredictable, I found last year’s window to be later than usual and quite short. Within days of this shoot you would have struggled to imagine there had been a carpet of purple extending as far a the eye could see. Generally I find mid April to mid May to be the best time to see them.

Esha and Alizah lots of fun twirling in their dresses and posing, they were naturals! At the same time we were very careful not to tread on the delicate flowers so future generations will be able to enjoy the same view we have. What you can’t see in most of the photographs is that everyone (including myself) is stood either on a path or clearing. It is very easy to fake being in the middle of the bluebells and fair kinder to them too. You can find out more about these wonderful flowers on the Woodland Trust’s website

Are you thinking of having a bluebell shoot this year? Make sure you get in touch quickly as I already have taken bookings for these sessions!
