Why I Love Being a Lancashire Photographer

What is it about Lancashire and the people who live here that inspires me so much?

The county itself is incredibly beautful and diverse, I’m absolutely spolit for choice when it comes to different locations and scenery. I find everything from the lush woodland of Spring Wood in Whalley to sandy beaches of Lytham St Annes and all within about a 40 minute drive. There are also many gorgeous locations here on my doorstep in Darwen! Every location changes each season giving me completely different backdrops year round, such as Roddlesworth Woods which makes a wonderful Autumnal backdrop with deep piles of red and orange leaves while in Spring time it’s covered in thick blanket of purple bluebells.

Many of the locations I use for photo shoots make a great day for families too, up at Roddlesworth after you’ve had a walk through the woods or made the journey up to Darwen Tower you can stop at Vaughn’s Country Cafe for a quick bite or more. They have lovely cakes on offer and their hot meals are yummy too, just what you need after burning lots of calories! Brockholes Nature Reserve is definitely worth a visit, there are plenty of walks for all abilities, the play park, and then the visitor village out on the lake where you can relax after. We’ve always enjoyed a day out to Williamson Park up in Lancaster, it’s a beautiful park to walk through with the added bonus of the Ashton Memorial, butterfly house, and small animal zoo to explore too. Another great day out not far from me is Samlesbury Hall, the hall and grounds are lovely to walk round with a choice of the restaurant or wafflery to enjoy after. There’s always fun activities going on for children in the holidays as well, my two love taking part.
The people in Lancashire are as lovely as the landscape they live in, I’ve always felt welcomed and at home. It’s a priviledge to be asked to shoot for a family, whether it’s for an outdoor photo session or something more formal such as a birthday and I take my role as your photographer very seriously. I love spending time with the families I photograph, getting to know you and making sure that your shoot is fun and memorable as well as giving you pictures that you can look back on fondly for a lifetime.

Anyone who has met me instantly knows that I’m not orignally from round these parts and when asked where I come from my answer tends to be quite long! I’ve lived in the Middle East and Far East, including Malaysia and Dubai. I’ve travelled in the USA and visited many countries in Europe. In the UK I was based in North Norfolk for much of my childhood, studied in Lincoln, and lived in London for many years. I’ve been here for over ten years now and Lancashire, in particular Blackburn with Darwen, is home to me. Both my children were born here and I feel very grateful that they have such a great place to call home.
