The days are starting to draw in and there’s a definite nip in the air first thing in the morning. There’s no doubt that summer is on it’s way out and autumn on it’s way in. However, a couple of days ago when we pulled up outside our house I noticed something rather lovely. Summer isn’t quite done round here yet.

We have a buddleia bush in our front yard that is usually huge and unruly but we severely cut it back earlier in the year. It’s taken quite a long time to recover and it has only just come into bloom. For awhile I thought it wasn’t going to come back at all but thank goodness they are hardy plants.

They’re fantastic plants for butterflies and bees so we love having it there for that reason. Although never before have I seen quite so many around it at once! I counted at least ten butterflies and quite a few honey bees flitting in and out. I’m not great at identifying creatures but from a little search it looks to me like we had mostly painted ladies and a couple of small tortoiseshells fluttering around. Let me know if I’m right! Have you seen any little last hurrahs of summer near you?
